Two links for you today because this first one is an interesting interactive map I got from my sister.
Vaccine-Preventable Outbreaks
I mention public health articles every now and then. Mostly it is something I get from my sister through Facebook. I think that GIS really shines in the public health area. The positive influence it can have on an otherwise miserable situation just cannot compared to other industries.
Anyway, poke around the map. Go look up your closest outbreaks and be a little freaked out.
Successful Test Flight of First Professional Grade Civilian Mapping UAS
In keeping with my constant drone talk we have another one! Professional grade civilian mapping? Sounds pretty awesome actually. Sounds a little scary as well. As I have said before, with proper regulation and safety it should be fine to have civilian owned UASs. To be honest I would rather there by smaller UASs out there then full sized human holding planes flying around. I do not necessarily think that UASs are inherently better, but certainly their smaller size means a worst case scenario might not be as bad.
This definitely steps up the tech race though. Hopefully we will start seeing news of other companies getting successful tests. And maybe the FAA keeps working on the regulations.
Stay tuned for Saturday. I have been working on a proper rant for a post. It should be good and I am hoping it pisses off a few people.
