Apple hints at future Maps app in 'layered map' patent filing
I saw this over at Spatially Adjusted which is worth putting through your rotation if you want some up to date and interesting posts. You know, the opposite of mine.
Apple is applying for a patent for their new map application. You can read the whole thing through the links, but effectively Apple designed an application that allows the user to add and modify layers to suit their needs. Sooooo, they recreated every GIS software ever. That is just great. We were in desperate need of another one of those.
Charles Darwin and the Voyage of the HMS Beagle
Story maps are kind of all the rage in 2013. They are really cool and fun when they are done correctly. This one is definitely done correctly. The voyage is something most English speaking people are familiar with. It is one of those standard lesson plans for both history and biology classes. The nice thing about story maps is that they put things into perspective. By seeing the media and the map in the same view you really understand the events.
