Augmented reality is basically the Holy Grail for me. I have been waiting for this since day one of life and we are so close to having it that I am starting to get jittery with excitement. Will the move toward Web GIS provision an operational augmented reality?

Augmented reality is basically the Holy Grail for me. I have been waiting for this since day one of life and we are so close to having it that I am starting to get jittery with excitement. The article is a little lengthy, but it covers a lot of the limitations that true Augmented Reality has at this point. The devices that can run Augmented Reality is practically available now. Google Glass is getting close to a real public release. Google Glass is not going to go anywhere, but once some competition in the next year or so comes around we should see some real functionality. So the real limitation that I see right now is precision in GPS. It is getting better every day and combined with network and WiFi location we are getting to the point where dense urban and indoor location detection is great for navigation. However, it is still not good enough for true Augmented Reality. It pretty much has to be perfect to be of any benefit. People will not adopt the technology if their device insists on telling them they are at a store that is actually two doors down. But once we get to that point competition will take over and the amount of functionality will be staggering. I am also looking forward to watching people walk into glass doors because the
