Summer GIS Courses Now Available at UC Davis Extension
Looking for GIS classes? Here is one of many programs that are offering them. Quite a few do them online so if you have the time and want to get into GIS then summer sessions are a good way to do it. 8 weeks for one or two classes can get you into the basics of GIS. At the very least you can learn how to interact with databases and learn how proper data management can really push your business forward.
U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service Announces Completion of National Wetlands Database and Interactive Mapping Tool
Another national public web application. It is surprisingly difficult to get some of these data sets. Now that many of these national agencies are starting to push for publicly available interactive maps the average citizen or consultant can get high level data without the expense or time.
In my experience I find that people can absorb the information better when they have an interactive map. By seeing the whole picture as well as the details you can really get an understanding of what is going on. I think if someone saw the wetland areas in their region they might think twice about how they pollute.
Know Your Farmer, Know Your Food Compass Map
Another cool web application. It really seems like a good way to get in touch with your local agriculture. Also seems like a good way to foster local economies and farming partnerships.
